To/From LaGuardia

There is no direct subway or rail service to Laguardia, but there are taxis, MTA buses, and private van/bus services.  Here we give some information about taxis and the MTA bus.  More information, private van/bus services is available at the LaGuardia transportation web page.

Taxis are the fastest, with uncongested travel times below 30 minutes and heavy traffic times taking around an hour.

Important Points:

  • There is a $1.00 peak-time surcharge for trips from 4 PM to 8PM on weekdays.
  • There is a $.50 surcharge for trips from 8PM to 6AM daily. There is also a NY State tax of 50 cents added to trips within New York, but not for trips to NJ.
  • One fare pays for all passengers to one destination.
  • Four passengers (five in minivans) is the limit for New York City cabs.
  • Meter must read $3.00 at the start of the trip.
  • Please take your receipt.

The fare to Columbia is around $30, with tip and toll ($5.33) not included.  Please use one of the officially recognized modes of transportation and do not accept rides from any driver with whom you have not made previous arrangements or who does not operate from an official taxi stand.

The MTA M60 bus route goes directly from LaGuardia airport, across town on 125th Street and makes a stop at 116th and Broadway, at the main entrance to Columbia.  The bus stops at all terminals at LaGuardia, is available 24 hours a day, and it runs at least every 10 minutes during the day. You need $2.50 in exact change (no dollar bills) or a MetroCard to ride the bus.  This is the cheapest way to get from Laguardia to Columbia and here is its timetable and route map.  The scheduled time is about 1 hour from Columbia to/from LaGuardia.
